Igodo Umuavulu magazine – Issue #5 (PDF download)

September 10, 2016

Igodo Umuavulu – Issue #5 is a magazine publication compiled, edited, published and curated by WAW Project Series. The theme of this issue is ‘A Budding Heritage’ and it revolves around the culture of the Umuavulu Abor people in Udi LGA, Enugu state of South-eastern Nigeria.

See an excerpt of the Editorial note below:

“The message of Igodo Umuavulu 2016: A Budding Heritage is for both the young and the old: while the young must ask questions, the old who know the stories of our heritage also have a responsibility to make these accounts available. This way we can ensure that our ancestors never have cause to lament about our growth, like you will see them doing in the letter, For Our Children. There are good stories of our culture such as were captured in Ikeadara and Benefits of our cultural heritage; there are also bad ones like you will read in the story, Akwa mkpe. The Stories of our Fathers series is a vibrant mix of it all – it allows you experience the tip of the iceberg of cultural and other benefits that could result when old and young collaborate to document the stories of our history …

It is my hope that reading this magazine will encourage you to seek out the stories of your past. Regardless of unattractive some might be, if they are true, you must own them. For history is neither good nor bad, it is just history. We must learn our stories because they make us who we are, and the wisdom they bring will drive growth for the budding seedlings of our heritage.”
